- - THE FAKE NEWS (EE#12) An e-zine for Norm Macdonald fans - - [ FROM THE EDITOR ] This edition is beaming out to more than 650 subscribers. Wow, who'da thunk it!? Thanks for spreading the word about "The Fake News" to your friends and colleagues. A relatively small, special interest site like mine really benefits from your word-of-mouth/word-of-email efforts. You'll notice the addition of "recommend to a friend" links throughout the magazine, and at the end of this newsletter ... I hope you'll consider using these. Thanks, -N! [ NEWS ] Aug. 23 (The Fake News) -- At last you can view it in all its widescreen glory! You may marvel again at BOB SAGET's astonishing directorial vision. Yes, we're talking about the greatest skinny guy/fat guy-buddy picture ever filmed in Toronto, Ontario, Canada ... "Dirty Work." MGM rolls out Norm's failed, but hilarious comedy on DVD Tuesday. We haven't gotten an advanced copy (because the promotions folks at MGM don't have their discs yet,) but from what we gather, its lean on extras. The disc contains ONLY the widescreen version, with 5.1 Dolby Digital sound, French and English soundtrack and subtitles, interactive menus, scene selections and it's 16:9 Enhanced. There's no commentary track. Wouldn't it have been great to get Norm, Artie and Bob together for that? Hmmm. Maybe for the "25th Anniversary Edition." There's no bonus footage, either ... other than the theatrical trailer. That's right, you aren't going to get to see the prison rape scene that was snipped for a PG-13 rating. But, hey, you're a fan with a DVD player, and you're saying, "Gimmie! Gimmie!" Well, pick up your copy at Amazon.com for just $14.99 (40% off.) o Get your DVD edition of "Dirty Work." http://www.thefakenews.net/dvd.html -- Aug. 16 (The Fake News) -- It looks like Norm has Faith for some dirty, dirty sex. ABC has announced the addition of FAITH FORD to the "Norm" cast. She's set to guest star in six episodes as a probation officer and Norm Henderson's love interest. Her character, Shelly Kilmartin, is described as sexy, sophisticated and street smart. So much so, that she inspires randy visions in Norm, who will try just about anything to get a date with her. Ford is a five-time Emmy nominee with more than 10 years of sitcom experience ... including her failed starring effort at CBS, "Maggie Winters." But after nine seasons on "Murphy Brown," Ford has tried her darn'dest to distance herself from quirky Corky Sherwood Forrest Silverberg with a couple made-for-TV thrillers "Night Visitors" and "Her Desperate Choice." Ford is already on the job and will be introduced during the season premiere on September 22. -- Aug. 12 (The Fake News) -- ABC pulled a scheduled rerun of "Norm" in light of the tragic attack on a Jewish community center this week. "The New Boss" begins with "some lunatic with a gun on a building," which turns out to be Norm's boss. The episode originally aired on April 28 -- just 8 days after the Columbine High School murders. Then, The WB chose to delay questionable episodes of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." The alphabet network didn't exercise the same discretion. This time they did, opting to air another episode, "While You Weren't Sleeping." Bravo. In other "Norm" news ... we neglected to mention that AMY WILSON has been replaced by THE AMAZING BREASTS OF NIKKI COX ... cameras roll on the 11th episode tomorrow night (arrive early!) ... and mark your calendar, the season premiere will be September 22. o "The New Boss" audio clip http://www.thefakenews.net/n/a/TNSshooting.ram [ APPEARANCES ] o "One Night Stand" rerun on September 1, 2 (COM).* * Available in archive. [ NORM ] This week ... "Norm" will not air due to "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?" mania. -- "Norm" tapings are scheduled for August 27, September 3, 10 and 17. As of presstime tickets were still available for the September dates. But, back in April, Norm visited his old boss Roseanne. They gabbed about the old days when he was a writer on her sitcom, plus he explains his greater interest in "Frogger" than copulation (that's a fancy word for "dirty, dirty sex".) Laurie Metcalf also joined the reunion. No transcript (yet), but plenty of swell audio. o "The Roseanne Show" (April 21) http://www.thefakenews.net/n/0421rose.shtml [ LAUGHS ] "Also this week a California newspaper revealed that O.J. SIMPSON was awarded custody of his children mainly because a court-ordered psychological test showed that he is a loving father. It should be noted, however, that the same test also showed that he was a loving husband." -- "TriStar Pictures is planning a film about the '70s disco act, THE VILLAGE PEOPLE. While the movie will be coming out next summer, it plans to wait until Thanksgiving to come out to its parents." -- Live! with Regis & Kathie Lee: "Anything [Larry King] thinks of -- he writes it down [in his USA Today column.] And they're just completely random. He'll go, 'Blue is a great color, but for my money: Yellow is the best!' It's like crazy. ... "I don't care what anybody says: Hitler was a bad man!" No one disagrees with that. ... He proposed to me once. ... just during a commercial break, he asked me if I'd like to be his next wife." [ CONTEST ] The 22nd Caption Contest winner is ... ERIC PAULIN!!!
