No
Norm is Bad News |
 |
Lovitz and Spade, but no Norm!! |
Residents of Dallas and Atlanta (those that had tickets) aren't to happy about
Our Hero's canceling his stand-up performances. It seemed to have made perfect sense
that Norm would be doing a small tour in April to coincide with his sitcom taking a break,
but now it seems that he's canceled all but one of his April performances (and we're not
even sure about the one in Eugene, Oregon). Norm said he cancelled for family
reasons. In his place for the Dallas show will be David Spade and Jon
Lovitz. Both of which are funny, but hey, WE WANT NORM!!
Residents of Anaheim, CA have
nothing to fear. Norm will still grace the city with his incomparable sense of
humor.
EDITOR'S
NOTE (Apr. 10): The Oregon performance has been canceled as well.

The
Return of The Weasel |
 |
| The Weasel is Back! |
Don "The
Weasel" Ohlmeyer has come out of retirement and is now the executive
producer of ABC's Monday Night Football. So, now Ohlmeyer is working for the same
network as Our Hero! Yikes!
As the West Cost President of NBC, Ohlmeyer was responsible for ending Norm's career as
the Weekend Update anchor on Saturday Night Live. To this day it is a mystery as to
why Ohlmeyer objected to Norm's act. The only reason he gave was that he thought
that Norm was "not funny."
Ohlmeyer left NBC in later 1999 and was replaced by Ex-WB Entertainment head Garth
Ancier.
While Don is currently not in a position of great power at ABC, who knows what his
plans for the future are? We here at TFN don't want to imply a conspiracy, but we
just can't bear the thought of history repeating itself.

The
Fake News' New Editor |
 |
| I'm older, trust me. |
Sheesh, I look young in
that photo. One TFN fan actually asked me if I had the illness that Gary
Coleman has. Well, the answer is no, this just happened to be the only
decent photo I had available. I've grown quite a bit in the last 3 years, and I have the
facial hair to prove it! I'll have a more updated photo of myself soon.
Well, if some of you are wondering who I am, my name is Mike Weiss, of
I'm the new editor and publisher of The Fake News which is now a part of my web empire, ComputerMike.com. The
physical move of the e-zine didn't go as smoothly as planned, but almost everything is
working now.

| Noel
and Weiner Dog (Zuzu) say, "Bye!" |
As many of you know, I
recently put this site up for sale. It is a decision I did not arrive at easily. It's just
time to move on. It's not you. It's me, or something. But I'm happy to announce that a fan
has stepped forward to carry on production of The Fake News. Mike "Ortega"
Weiss and I have reached an agreement for the sale of the magazine, and in the next
few days the physical move will begin. I am very pleased that someone with Mike's
enthusiasm and dedication will head the fansite. For me, The Fake News has been a happy
accident. I posted a small web page as a rallying point for fans upset with Norm's
"Weekend Update" ouster back in January 1998. By the end of the ordeal, I'd
received such a enthusiastic response from fans, that I decided to parlay the protest site
into an online fan magazine. Since then, the site has snowballed thanks to continued
support from readers like yourself. The problem for me, is that the site has outgrown my
desire, or ability to maintain it at the level I feel fans have grown to expect. Coverage
that I used to enjoy putting together has become more of a chore than an amusement.
Another consideration is financial. Last year, through a poor choice in Web providers, I
was saddled with a bill that was five times the out-of-pocket budget I was comfortable
with. Once again, readers showed their support for me and the website, and helped me
recoup about a third of the budget overrun. But the fact of the matter is, I'm not willing
to put additional funds into the magazine. Another disappointment has been the complete
lack of cooperation from Norm's handlers. I can understand not hearing from the man
himself, as a website like mine probably scares the crap out of him. But you'd think if
40,000 of Norm fans think enough of The Fake News to visit each month, that his people
could help out with information, or even a pat on the back. One last time, I'd like to
thank everyone for their kind notes and words of appreciation. I'm certain Mike will find
y'all as supportive as I most certainly have. G. Noel Gross.
